When should your child start visiting their Ayer, MA, general dentist for routine care?oral hygiene

Whether you are a first-time or seasoned parent, it is important to have a dentist by you and your child’s side. We know that you may have questions about how to properly care for your child’s smile as they get older, and our Ayer, MA, dentists Dr. Kevin Brown, Dr. Erin Deedy-Lee and Dr. Mahshid Bahadoran are here to provide you with the helpful tips you need to make sure your child’s smile is getting everything it needs.

The minute those teeth start to show up in your little one’s mouth it’s time to turn your attention to their oral care routine and how to keep their teeth and gums healthy. Once your child’s first tooth comes in (usually by their first birthday) it’s time to schedule a routine checkup with one of our Ayer, MA, family dentists.

This first dental visit will ensure that your child’s smile is reaching all developmental milestones and that their teeth and gums are healthy and free of problems, all while establishing rapport with you and your little one and get your child used to dental cleanings every six months.

During their visit, we will examine their mouth and if there is plaque or tartar buildup then we will also perform a dental cleaning; however, the first visit is really to get to know your child and your family. We will discuss your child’s habits and diet. We will also provide helpful tips for how to care for their smiles and prevent decay and other issues. We will also discuss other preventive measures that might be beneficial to your child (e.g. dental sealants; fluoride treatment).

If you have questions these visits are also the perfect time to come with your questions and concerns written down so we can address them. Not sure what kind of toothbrush to use? Not sure how much toothpaste is the right amount for your toddler? We can happily answer all of these questions to make sure that your child is also getting proper dental care at home, as well.

If you have questions about caring for your child’s smile, don’t hesitate to call our Ayer, MA, dental office anytime. Maintaining a healthy smile doesn’t have to be difficult. Turn to our dental team to get your questions answered and concerns addressed.
